The Age of Social Media

Sometimes I think about what life would be like if we were not a society that lived and breathed social media.

All social media platforms have slowly but surely dominated each living generation; aside from the silent generation, from the time it made it's substantial debut. Social media ultimately blew up in the early 2000's, luring a slighter percentage of Baby Boomers, but rolling in Gen X with MySpace, Linkedln, and Facebook. Later, these same sites plus Youtube, Pinterest, and Twitter slowly charmed there way through the Millennials. Not long after, Reddit, Instagram and Snapchat, amongst other social media sites swooped in during the Millennials generation, and so by the time Gen Z arrived, they had the privilege of being born right into the society of social media and grew in the midst of it.

This leads us to today, where society is living and breathing in the age of social media. As it can be a massive mass way of communication, and platform for informing, and marketing, it also comes along with expression and enjoyment, that of which I think everyone can agree on. The want and seamlessly the "need" for social media only grows more with time. Although the effects of social media are debatable, it is an ever changing societal component that we all need to get used to, if we are not by now. The bigger audience for laying out a foundation is great, and intriguing with less effort, but less human contact and nonvoidable toxic interactions are immensely damaging. It is an everlasting addiction in this age of social media.
